City Vaults Pub

The City Vaults Pub & Food House is one of our latest projects, handing over for Christmas 2019. The brief was to maintain the traditional ‘character pub’ in the original building with modern industrial ‘twists’. An adjacent old store and cellar adopted a sympathetic industrial theme.

Many months were spent developing the design for this listed property. A vast range of materials, lighting and furniture were researched before finally creating a fantastic scheme.

We designed dining and drinking areas that merged seamlessly in order to link the two buildings. Problems were incurred however, when a concrete ring beam was discovered within the meter thick walls. This prompted some radical re-designs with the added pressure of a Christmas deadline. The final outcome though, actually added to the character of the scheme. The City Vaults Pub & Food House was born again!

The scheme has retained the traditional Victorian features of the original City Vaults while creating contemporary dining and cellar areas. Exposed brick walls and steel columns have been supplemented with aged tiles and LED neon signs. The City Vaults has been transformed and is now a great venue with multi use spaces.

Victoria Court Shopping Centre

Victoria Court Shopping Centre, formerly the Central Arcade in Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire. The arcade was extremely run down and dated; it was used mainly as a walk through between shopping areas in the town centre and was in need of a major refurbishment, we decided to adopt a more opulent approach. We looked to the neighbouring city centres such as Leeds and Bradford and took influence from their Victorian shopping arcades. We transformed the arcade with new terrazzo effect tile flooring and marble effect wall cladding. Gold trimmed light fittings and mahogany shopfronts add to the grandeur of the new scheme. External stone cladding and a prominent new signage scheme are a major improvement externally and create a more eye-catching facade. Refurbishing Central Arcade (AKA The Rubber Tunnell) has rejuvenated the centre of this small Yorkshire market town. The Victoria Court Shopping Centre now has ten retail outlets with office suites above.

Office Design

Office design should create a stimulating work environment. Lighting should mimic daylight and with the inclusion of natural elements, remind us of our essential humanity. This familiarity provides comfort and a sense of well being. Employees that are able to influence their space will both perform and feel better in an urban workplace. There will be a greater sense of self worth. When temperature or noise affect performance there should be an option to move to an alternative space. Sharing knowledge is king and a genuine social workplace will merge both physical and digital spaces. Office design should accommodate everyone’s needs with a sense of all inclusive. An open plan workplace removes the boundaries and barriers.
